Generally, working during adolescence is good for kids, as it can foster valuable skills and prepare them for adulthood, but the benefits depend on factors like the intensity, quality, and context of the work. Research from the University of North Carolina’s Center for Health Equity Research shows that early work experience helps kids develop life skills, boost confidence, and build a foundation for future success. KidGigs makes this possible by providing a safe and supportive way for kids to grow and thrive.
Parents and guardians have the ability to approve gigs, set an approval rule (for example- always approve a car wash task), set a location control (for example, only allow tasks in public places not individuals’ homes), limit task types, view schedules, and see chat and gig details. Parents can pause or remove a child’s access at any time.
Only approximate location is used for matching. Exact addresses are shared only after acceptance and only with the other party.
Yes. Use the “Trusted posters” and community filters. Requests from outside your settings will not reach your child. For example, you can limit your child to only receive gigs from people in your soccer league, or your direct friends in the app.
Yes. Parents have visibility into in-app chat and gig details for safety.
Parents can manage this. They can either require approval for every gig(default state) or configure an auto-approval based on who is requesting help or the task type.
No, you can choose to work as few or as many hours as you’d like. You can accept or reject and there is no downside/punishment if you are not available to do a gig.
No. Ignoring or declining a request you haven’t accepted doesn’t affect your standing. Your future matches depend on your fit (skills, location) and your track record on the gigs you do accept—quality of work, reliability, and reviews.
If plans change and you can’t make it on time, don’t worry! Task Posters, Kids, and Parents all have the ability to cancel or reschedule tasks as needed directly through the app. Please try to provide as much notice as possible to ensure a smooth experience for everyone involved.
Wait a little bit, then message them in the app, and if they still don’t show then tap Report a Problem. We will help reschedule or close the gig based on the situation.
Yes, and for many tasks we encourage a parent to accompany kids, especially the first time with a new poster.
To maximize the number of tasks, it comes down to 3 things:
1. Parent Verification– Students under 18 must have parent verification (approval) before they are eligible to start earning
2. Skills and Abilities – The more types of skills and experience you enter, the more opportunities you’ll have to match gig requests.
3. Quality – Do a good job! If you have a higher rating you’ll be more likely to get jobs in the future.
Use the questions in “Create New Task” to guide you. Include a clear description of the task, expected time, tools provided, pet or access notes, and your ideal schedule. The app suggests typical local price ranges as a default, so use those if you’re unsure.
Yes. Use the “Rebook” feature in the app to request the same student.
No. Ignoring or declining a request you haven’t accepted doesn’t affect your standing. Your future matches depend on your fit (skills, location) and your track record on the gigs you do accept—quality of work, reliability, and reviews.
You can edit time, instructions, and price before the gig is accepted. After acceptance, request a change in chat or reschedule in the app.
Yes. While it's always best to keep the gig on-time and not cancel, we understand that things change and sometimes there are situations where you need to reschedule or cancel a gig and our app allows you to do that easily.
If the task was not completed as agreed, request a resolution in the app within the stated window. We review the case and may issue a partial or full refund per policy.
It depends on the task. Some tasks are time-sensitive and need to be completed quickly, while others are more flexible. As a general rule, try to schedule tasks at least 3-5 days in advance to give everyone enough time to prepare. The more lead time you can provide, the smoother the process will be for everyone.
