For parents of students who want to earn

Is it good for students to work?

Generally, working during adolescence is good for kids, as it can foster valuable skills and prepare them for adulthood, but the benefits depend on factors like the intensity, quality, and context of the work. Research from the University of North Carolina’s Center for Health Equity Research shows that early work experience helps kids develop life skills, boost confidence, and build a foundation for future success. KidGigs makes this possible by providing a safe and supportive way for kids to grow and thrive.

What controls do parents/guardians have?

Parents and guardians have the ability to approve gigs, set an approval rule (for example- always approve a car wash task), set a location control (for example, only allow tasks in public places not individuals’ homes), limit task types, view schedules, and see chat and gig details. Parents can pause or remove a child’s access at any time.

How do you handle location privacy for my child?

Only approximate location is used for matching. Exact addresses are shared only after acceptance and only with the other party.

Can I restrict who can contact my child?

Yes. Use the “Trusted posters” and community filters. Requests from outside your settings will not reach your child. For example, you can limit your child to only receive gigs from people in your soccer league, or your direct friends in the app.

Can I see my child’s messages?

Yes. Parents have visibility into in-app chat and gig details for safety.

How are injuries or damages handled?

For non-emergencies, document what happened with photos in the app and contact support. For emergencies, call local emergency services first, then report in the app. We will guide next steps per policy.

Do I need parent permission each time?

Parents can manage this. They can either require approval for every gig(default state) or configure an auto-approval based on who is requesting help or the task type.

If I sign up as a student, am I required to work a certain number of hours?

No, you can choose to work as few or as many hours as you’d like. You can accept or reject and there is no downside/punishment if you are not available to do a gig.

Will it hurt my chances of getting future gigs if I reject a gig?

No. Ignoring or declining a request you haven’t accepted doesn’t affect your standing. Your future matches depend on your fit (skills, location) and your track record on the gigs you do accept—quality of work, reliability, and reviews.

What if plans change and I can’t make it to a task on time?

If plans change and you can’t make it on time, don’t worry! Task Posters, Kids, and Parents all have the ability to cancel or reschedule tasks as needed directly through the app. Please try to provide as much notice as possible to ensure a smooth experience for everyone involved.

What if the task poster doesn’t show for the task?

Wait a little bit, then message them in the app, and if they still don’t show then tap Report a Problem. We will help reschedule or close the gig based on the situation.

Can I bring a parent or guardian?

Yes, and for many tasks we encourage a parent to accompany kids, especially the first time with a new poster.

How do I get more tasks?

To maximize the number of tasks, it comes down to 3 things:

1. Parent Verification–  Students under 18 must have parent verification (approval) before they are eligible to start earning

2. Skills and Abilities – The more types of skills and experience you enter, the more opportunities you’ll have to match gig requests.

3. Quality – Do a good job!  If you have a higher rating you’ll be more likely to get jobs in the future.

For neighbors seeking help with tasks

How do I write a clear gig and set the right price?

Use the questions in “Create New Task” to guide you. Include a clear description of the task, expected time, tools provided, pet or access notes, and your ideal schedule. The app suggests typical local price ranges as a default, so use those if you’re unsure.

Can I request the same student
again?

Yes. Use the “Rebook” feature in the app to request the same student.

What if the student is late or cancels?

No. Ignoring or declining a request you haven’t accepted doesn’t affect your standing. Your future matches depend on your fit (skills, location) and your track record on the gigs you do accept—quality of work, reliability, and reviews.

What if I need to change details after posting?

You can edit time, instructions, and price before the gig is accepted. After acceptance, request a change in chat or reschedule in the app.

What if something comes up, can I cancel or reschedule a task I posted?

Yes. While it's always best to keep the gig on-time and not cancel, we understand that things change and sometimes there are situations where you need to reschedule or cancel a gig and our app allows you to do that easily.

How do refunds work?

If the task was not completed as agreed, request a resolution in the app within the stated window. We review the case and may issue a partial or full refund per policy.

How far in advance should I post my task?

It depends on the task. Some tasks are time-sensitive and need to be completed quickly, while others are more flexible. As a general rule, try to schedule tasks at least 3-5 days in advance to give everyone enough time to prepare. The more lead time you can provide, the smoother the process will be for everyone.

What tasks are not allowed?

Anything unsafe or age-restricted, including power tools, ladders above step height, driving, hazardous chemicals, heavy machinery, handling cash drops, or entering dangerous areas.

How do ratings and reviews work?

After each gig, both sides can leave a rating and short review. Reviews should stay about the work and remain respectful. You can report any review for moderation.

Data and privacy

Why do you ask for my address and date of birth?

We use this information only to confirm identity and run a safety check for users (18+) against national databases, helping ensure every person on KidGigs is safe for kids to interact with. The address and date of birth make the check more accurate and prevent false matches. We never sell or share this information; it's used solely for safety purposes.

How does KidGigs protect my personal information?

Your personal data is encrypted and stored securely. It’s never shared publicly or used for marketing. All safety checks run through trusted third-party APIs that comply with privacy and security standards. Our goal is to protect both kids and families while keeping information private.

Who can see my phone or email?

For privacy and safety reasons, contact info is hidden to ensure interactions remain on the platform (via in-app chat) or details shared as part of the task request.

How do I delete my account or my child’s account?

Go to Settings → Account → Delete account. We will confirm and complete deletion per policy, with some records retained only if the law requires it.
